What is a gift registry?

A gift registry is a list of baby items you select from our merchandise in order to start your nursery or get ready for your baby's arrival. It’s a convenient way to keep all your information in one place, and as items are purchased we will keep track of the items you still need.

Why register?

Your registry is an easy way to keep yourself organized, and it’s a great way to let your friends and family know what you need when they’re searching for that perfect shower gift or birthday gift. Because we keep your registry on file and up to date, you always know what items have been purchased and what items still need to be purchased.

What types of items should I register for?

Anything you like or might need for your new baby. All of the items provided on Dawn Price Baby's website fit either one of these categories. We have gone through the process of evaluating and selecting the best items already. And don’t be concerned about price, it is always better to register for a broad range of items to give shoppers a choice. Remember to register for gift cards in various dollar levels. A gift card allows you the option of buying exactly what you like and helps the shoppers out as well.

To help guide you on what items you may need, we’ve put together a series of checklists to help you brainstorm and organize your nursery.

How do I let people know where I’m registered?

Of course, you can tell people when they ask, but hopefully, if we do our job right, they won’t need to bother you at all. When you register with Dawn Price Baby we’ll supply you with complimentary Registry Insert Cards that can be included into shower invitations or birth announcements. All of our store information will be on the card so locating us and shopping at our store, whether on-line or in our boutique, is easily accessed. If your friends and family pop into the store, or log-on to our site, we’ll have a copy of your registry on file for them to peruse. All they have to do is give us your name, and we’ll give them a list of gifts you still need. You can also email your friends and family directly from our baby registry service which will provide them with a link to your on-line registry page.

Do you offer on-line shopping for people who live outside Washington, DC?

We sure do. Your far away friends and family can easily shop for you on our website or even call us and we will take care of the purchase for them.

How often should I check my registry?

You should check your registry at least every week or so. Of course, you can check it as often as you like. It is best to check to see if you need to refresh your registry if there isn't a broad enough selection of items to choose from for future shoppers. Also, as you become a more educated mom-to-be, you’ll constantly be discovering things you didn’t know you needed when you first registered and you’ll want to add those items onto your list.

How do I update my registry?

You can update your registry in one of our stores, or you can update your registry from the comfort of your own home. All you have to do is go to our website and log-on to your registry page. You can monitor your registry list, add or change items and browse anytime and anywhere.

Are the items in the store also available on-line?

Yes, even though our on-line store has many items our stores have many more. We can add any item that is available in one of our stores to your registry for you. All you have to do is let us know what you want us to add and we will do it for you. Don't worry if you can't view the items personally, if there is something you know you want and would like to add it, just give us a call and we can work with you to get the item added.

What if I want to register for something you don’t carry?

We have ways of getting the things you need. Come and see us, or call us, and let us know what product you’re looking for and we’ll do our best to see that you get it. That’s just how helpful and amazing we are!

What should I do if I need help?

You can call, email or come see us either store location whenever it is most convenient for you. We’re always available to talk you off ledges, find that wonder mystery product or give you a pep talk. If you’re not happy, we’re not happy.

Am I bothering you when I call all the time?

No. We are here to help you! And we’re excited about your nursery too. We love what we do, we love babies and we love you. Call us. We’ll be hurt if you don’t. Better yet, come in and see us. We can laugh and gossip and feel the baby kick.

Do you offer returns and exchanges?

It’s a fact of gift-giving life that sometimes people buy duplicate gifts. It happens. And when it does, we are happy to let you exchange the item or offer store credit for any items you’ve received but decided you don’t need.

Registry Dos and Don'ts

Do register.

Your friends and family are excited for you. They want to buy you something to celebrate this wonderful occasion and they want you to be happy. By registering, you are making it easy for them to give something special and something you want and/or need.

Do start planning for your baby’s arrival five or six months before you’re due.

It may seem like your baby’s arrival is a far off event, but it’s not. It’s sooner than you think, and you’ll want to have your nursery ready for your tiny guest. If you register early this gives you plenty of time to think about what you need, consider your options and make sure you’re able to get everything on time.

Do use our checklists to help you plan for your nursery.

Our checklists are here to make your life easier. If you had to start your registry list from scratch, you’d go crazy. There are a so many baby items out there that claim to be necessary and life changing. Some are. Some aren’t. And given monetary and space concerns you’ll want to be discerning about the items you select. Dawn Price Baby has put a lot of time (and scrutiny) into the selection of the items on our checklists, so you don’t have to. If we recommend an item to you, you can be sure we love it and hope you’ll love it too.

Do choose registry items that suit a wide range of budgets.

Your friends and family come from all different walks of life and financial situations. When you select the items for your registry try to choose things that run a broad spectrum of prices so there’s something for everyone to buy. Your college pals may want to kick in for a jog stroller, or your niece may want to buy your baby a box of adorable socks. There are so many things – from large to small – that your baby will need, never think of anything as too much or too little.

Do ask for gift cards.

It is not considered gauche to ask for or give gift cards. It’s a generous and loving way of saying, I care even when they don't know what you need or want. Dawn Price Baby gift cards come in various denominations and you can register for as many as you want.

Do let someone throw you a shower, or two!

People want to celebrate you and your little bundle of joy, so let them! Don’t feel shy or uncomfortable about the fuss. When a friend or family member offers to throw you a shower, just say “yes, thank you!”

Do check your registry inventory regularly.

You’ll should keep an eye on your list and replenish your inventory from time to time, leading up to the big day. You also might check-in with us to see if we have any new fabulous products to help make your life easier. You’ll want to pop them on the list, for sure.

Do register, even if you’re having your second, third or fourth child.

Yes. If you’re second child is of a different sex than your first child, your friends may want to throw you another shower to prepare you, since the gifts for your first child may have been gender-specific. Even if your second child is the same sex as your first, you will want to register to restock your nursery and baby items since time has passed and you may be missing important items. And most importantly, every new baby is cause for celebration and friends and family will want to know what you need for your soon-to-arrive family member.

Don’t be afraid to let people know where you’re registered.

Your shower guests, friends and family want to know what you want or need for your imminent arrival. Don’t make them guess. If you’re not comfortable telling people where you’re registered, we’re happy to email out a link to your on-line registry page, and we also have adorable little registry insert cards that can be included in your invitations or birth announcements.

Don’t simply select the five most expensive items in the store if you are planning on returning them for store credit and items to buy later.

It’s no fun for your friends and family to put the time in to buy a special something for you that is not really so special. And if you think you’re going to have time to go shopping after the baby is born, think again!

Don’t feel bad about necessary returns.

If you’re received duplicate gifts, or things you didn’t need, it is okay to exchange them for something else. Remember, this is about what you need for your baby

Shoppers: Don’t discount anything on the list.

She registered for it. She needs it or wants it. The registry is there for a reason, so use it. If you see something else you like in the store and feel you must buy it, even if it’s not on registry, consider giving a gift receipt with the gift so she can return it if she already has something like it, or needs something else more appropriate for her nursery.
